๐Ÿ”ฎ Simulated Learning Landscape

Simulated and immersive learning in workforce and career development continues to gain momentum, with recent investments into companies like PlanetSpark ($17M), Elice ($14.5M), and Oxford Medical Simulation ($12.6M), alongside Medical XR platforms Innerspace ($6.2M) and Immerse ($5M). This funding is driving product launches and adoption across educational settings and sectors.

Immersive learning is moving mainstream, especially in career and science skills development. It's finding a foothold in workforce training environments, K12 to career pathways programs, and university settings, reflecting recent developments. For instance, St. Vrain Valley Schools partnered with Avantis Education to integrate immersive learning into classrooms, while Labsterโ€™s collaboration with OpenStax is improving access to immersive science education with virtual labs. Even medical training is evolving, with The National Board of Medical Examinersโ€™ acquisition of MedVR signaling a shift towards simulation-based skill development and assessment. As these technologies mature and gain traction, expect greater adoption and more diverse applications across the industry. HolonIQโ€™s Simulated Learning market map offers valuable insights into this dynamic space.

๐Ÿ“Š Charts Spotlight - 11% projected increase in STEM jobs by 2032

Subscribe to HolonIQ's 'Chart of the Day,' a daily newsletter that helps explain the global impact economy, from climate tech to education and healthcare.

STEM occupations in the US are projected to increase by 10.8% between 2022 and 2032, outpacing the 2.3% growth expected for non-STEM jobs. This uptick is fueled by the digital transformation sweeping across industries, creating a growing demand for STEM professionals in computer science, software development, and information security. The increasing reliance on technology simultaneously exposes these fields to vulnerabilities from cyberattacks and data breaches. Information security analysts are expected to see their ranks swell by 31% from 2022 to 2032, with nearly 600,000 cybersecurity positions currently vacant.

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) presents exciting new career opportunities, highlighting the critical need for upskilling to stay adaptable. While AI promises incredible potential, there are concerns about its impact on critical thinking skills, essential for success in STEM. To address these evolving needs, revisions to STEM education could emphasize the importance of lifelong learning, fostering a growth mindset among students to adapt seamlessly to the ever-changing technological landscape.

๐Ÿซ 2024 Global Student Flows: US Outlook

Expect the United States to attract nearly 1.5M international students by 2030, retaining a strong hold on its position as the top study destination globally. With a coordinated national strategy, the U.S. has upside potential for an additional 300K students. However, capacity constraints and the potential for a change in visa policy cast a shadow over what should represent nearly $100B in direct economic benefit for the United States at the turn of the decade.
