🚸 International Schools

With over 14,000+ international schools worldwide, serving almost 7 million students and 665,000 teachers, international schools are a large and growing global business. International schools provide a pathway for international higher education, and parents are drawn to the appeal of English as the main language of learning, seeing it as a route to better post-school opportunities for their children.

International schools generally operate independently, as part of a cross-border network of schools, or as part of a franchise, and offer globally recognized curriculum. To signal quality, schools have sought recognition from established associations like MSA-CESS, NEASC, Cognia, CIS, FOBISIA, and others. Online international schools are growing, too, and have attracted students facing geographic or financial constraints. Indeed, online models allow K12 students to access international education at more competitive prices than traditional international schools.

International schools will continue to be a key model in the K12 landscape as globalization progresses and as parents seek to ensure that their children develop skills and perspectives that are valuable in a global workforce.

📊 Charts Spotlight - Factors affecting international school choice

It stands to reason that K12 international schools are in high demand in Asia, given that students from the region account for the majority of global student flows to international higher education destinations (US, UK, Canada, and Australia). K12 International Schools offer globally recognized education taught primarily in English, streamlining the pathway to higher education abroad for students from non-English speaking countries.
