👵 Aged Care Rises By 26%
HolonIQ’s Aged Care Index has increased by 26% over the past twelve months, driven by the rising demand for aged care services due to an aging population. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the global population over the age of 60 is projected to nearly double, reaching 22%. Countries like China, Japan, and South Korea are experiencing significant increases in their elderly populations due to declining fertility rates and longer life expectancies. This demographic shift has spurred substantial investments in elderly care, with China announcing plans to double its subsidies to enhance these services. Additionally, the Connecticut House of Representatives has passed a bill to increase oversight of home care workers, aiming to improve aged care services in response to the growing elderly population. Stocks in the index have been benefitting from this demographic change and increased demand for aged care. HCA Healthcare ($84B MCap) has seen a 7.4% increase over the past year, with Welltower ($63B MCap) rising 30%, and Sumitomo ($31B MCap) increasing 20%.
