🎓 85K Doctoral Degrees in Health Professions

Of all doctoral degrees issued in the US in 2020-2021, degrees in health professions were the most commonly issued, with 85,000 degrees conferred. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that total employment is to grow by almost 4.7 million from 2022 to 2032, with the majority of the jobs created in the healthcare and social assistance sector. The increase in demand for these jobs, driven by an aging population and an increased prevalence of chronic conditions, will likely provide better salary opportunities for healthcare-related roles, encouraging further higher education in the field. There has also been a notable uptick in funding allocated to the healthcare industry, including financial support towards making healthcare education more affordable.

🍃 510GW Renewable Energy Capacity Additions in 2023

In 2023, global additions to renewable energy capacity totaled 510GW, marking a nearly 50% increase. This represents the fastest growth rate in the past two decades. Solar energy accounted for more than half of this growth, with China being at the forefront of this advancement. China's additions to solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in 2023 matched the total global additions a year earlier and, in 2023, accounted for 14% of the world's solar additions. China also experienced a substantial rise in wind capacity, 21% more than a year earlier and more than double the installations in the US and Europe combined. Increases in renewable energy capacity in the US, Europe, and Brazil also hit all-time highs.

📉 Declining Poverty Over The Decades

Global poverty rates have declined over the years due to increased access to resources, technological advancements, and globalization. However, the Middle Eastern region has registered an uptick in poverty, with the prevalence of conflict hindering access to necessities and increasing economic inequality. In East Asia, China's rapid economic growth has led to millions lifted out of poverty. China alone has accounted for three-quarters of the global reduction in the number of people living in extreme poverty over the last forty years. Despite rapid advancements in poverty reduction across South Asia, challenges have emerged in countries like Pakistan and Sri Lanka, where recent economic downturns have impeded efforts toward poverty alleviation. Structural reforms are in place to promote economic recovery, but the effects of the crises are likely to be felt for years to come.
