πŸ“Ά 5G to Make Up 50% of Mobile Subscriptions by 2028

By 2028, 5G is expected to make up 50% of all mobile subscribers, however, this transition won't be seamless. Historically slower to adopt new technologies, emerging markets are expected to hold onto GSM/EDGE, 3G, and LTE for longer, with LTE still accounting for nearly 40% of subscriptions even in 2028. Similar trends were seen prior, where HSPA (3G) usage peaked in 2016, while LTE usage is expected to have peaked in 2023. The adoption of 5G will be greatly influenced by smartphone penetration in emerging markets and compatibility with new features. However, beyond smartphones its role in powering IoT devices will accelerate the growth of smart devices, creating a strong push for faster networks.

πŸ§’ Childhood Mental Health Perceptions Depend on Income Levels

Young adults (ages 15-24) from low and lower-middle-income countries offer an optimistic view of childhood mental health, with 67% believing it has improved over the past generation. This sentiment diminishes, however, as we climb up the income ladder, with 60% of high-income young adults reporting that childhood mental health has worsened. The lower rates in low-income groups may be likely due to a strong community structure and increasing access to mental health support. Another contributing factor could be access to technology, where wider access to technology in high-income segments, coupled with social isolation could be causing comparatively poorer mental health.

πŸ” 70 Billion Chickens Killed, up 7x Since 1965

Global chicken consumption has surged, reaching a record 70 billion chickens slaughtered in 2021, marking a seven fold increase since 1965. This can be attributed to its affordability, efficiency, and cultural acceptance. Its popularity is fueled by economic benefits like minimal feed and grazing land requirements, as well as advancements in breeding and health management that optimize production.

Culturally versatile and compatible with many ethical and religious dietary restrictions, chicken remains a staple dietary choice of protein for many. Although per capita consumption varies regionally based on dietary preferences and homegrown practices, the upward trend remains undeniable. To achieve sustainability, regulations are required to reduce intensive farming practices and curb environmental impacts.
