🏯 Vietnam Stock Index Up 8%
HolonIQ’s Vietnam index has risen by 8% YoY while the index has gained 2% over the last 3 months. Vietnam's quarterly GDP growth stands at 5.6%, a moderation from the 6.7% increase in Q4 2023, marking the 10th consecutive quarter of economic expansion. Due to geopolitical tensions and pressure on vietnam’s exchange rate, stocks initially fell in April but soon recovered on the back of increased government investments and rising manufacturing sector demand. GDP growth is projected to increase through 2024, driven by increased demand for chips, the recovery of Chinese and regional economies, ongoing supply chain shifts, and expected growth in Vietnamese exports. Vietnam lacks major chip manufacturing facilities but plays a crucial role in the downstream segement of the semiconductor manufacturing process with the government aiming to develop chip production to boost economic growth. While the economic outlook appears promising, political tensions can hinder the country's growth following the forced resignation of a second president in just over a year in May 2024.
