🎓 >10% Rise in US International Student Enrollments

US international student enrollments grew to 298,523 in 2022/23, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and signaling a strong recovery. However, this upward trend faces significant headwinds from new, restrictive government policies creating widespread uncertainty in the global academic community. For example, Harvard University faced a directive threatening its ability to enroll foreign students. This reflects a stricter stance, underlined by a new policy from ICE, expanding its authority to terminate students' legal status in the SEVIS database.

🍃 >10% Rise in India’s Renewable Capacity Share

Renewable energy's share in India’s electricity capacity consistently grew to 35.2% by 2023, up from 22.9% in 2014. This shift in the energy sector fuels a surge in demand for green jobs. However, this has created a skills gap, and  elevating the youth, especially women who form only 11% of India’s renewable workforce compared to 32% globally is vital for an inclusive transition. To address this, India’s Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) is implementing skilling programs to meet manpower needs.

🏭 >$120M Invested by NSF in Nanotech Applications and Devices

The US National Science Foundation allocates the largest share of its nanotechnology funding, $285.5 million, to foundational research. This financial commitment highlights a strategic priority on early-stage discovery, with an emphasis on improving researchers' access to resources. This support for infrastructure provides scientists with access to advanced fabrication and characterization tools at university facilities. This goal is realized through the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI), and The NSF Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology a network of user facilities supported by the NSF.
