๐Ÿซ University Closures

Between 1969 and 2021, 1,363 degree-granting postsecondary institutions in the United States closed, mainly due to financial challenges from declining enrollment and other funding issues. Demographic and market shifts such as lower birth rates, and increasing competition from alternates are shrinking the pool of traditional college-age students and in 2024, closures look set to hit a record high of one per week. This year sees closure of the Notre Dame College in Ohio, University of Antelope Valley in California, Lincoln Christian University in Illinois, Magdalen College in New Hampshire, Johnson University of Florida, Hodges University in Florida, The College of Saint Rose in New York, Cabrini University in Pennsylvania, Oak Point University in Illinois among others including the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, which closed one of its external campuses due to low enrollment. Demographic issues are also at play in other parts of the world with, for example four Taiwanese colleges expected to close by the beginning of the third quarter of 2024 due to a decline in birth rates.
