🎓 40% Decline in Romania’s Tertiary Enrollment
Tertiary education enrollment in Romania fell from 871.8K in 2012 to 539K in 2023, with the sharpest drop between 2012 and 2014, then stabilizing. To improve this, recent government policies—such as the "Educated Romania" project and the 2023 Higher Education Law—aim to boost enrollment, reduce dropout rates, support STEM fields, and align education with labor market needs, fostering a more inclusive and competitive higher education system.
⚕️ >25% Growth in Japan’s Medical Graduates
Following a period of fluctuation, Japan's number of medical graduates increased from 5.8 per 100K inhabitants in 2008 to 7.3 in 2022, reflecting efforts to expand its healthcare workforce amid an aging population. Initiatives like "community-based integrated care" integrate healthcare, welfare, and lifestyle support for aging in place. Under "Japan Vision: Health Care 2035," the focus shifts from quantity to quality and cure to care, emphasizing fairness, autonomy, and integrated health systems.
🍃 >20M Workers in China’s Energy Industry
In 2023, energy employment varied globally. China led in power generation and vehicles, driven by clean energy policies. North America and Europe focused on oil & gas and efficiency. Africa saw growth in low-emission fuels. Governments support these shifts through development initiatives like UK’s British Energy Security Strategy and vocational training initiatives such as Canada's Sustainable Jobs Training Fund in alignment with a smooth transition to sustainable energy and global sustainability goals like SDG 13.
