Ericsson and e& Egypt partnered to improve Egypt's ICT infrastructure with new 5G tech, aligning with Egypt Vision 2030. Air5 aims to integrate DOCSIS with 5G in late 2024, aiming to boost the cable TV industry. TRAI’s new Terahertz Experimental Authorization (THEA) supports R&D in next-gen tech. In AI-centric semiconductors, Purio’s RNGD chip claims 60% better power efficiency than Nvidia's L40S, while IBM’s new Telum II processor and Spire AI accelerator enhance enterprise computing. Samsung Electro-Mechanics invested $1.9T in FC-BGA for AI servers, and Tesla's Mojo NIC improves AI data processing. Meshy-4’s new 3D modeling tool enhances the creation of a virtual environment. SK Telecom and Lambda partnered to install a large NVIDIA GPU cluster in South Korea to boost AI services. Aleph Alpha released open-source LLMs for EU regulatory compliance. Recent funding highlights include Shift4 Payments acquiring Givex for $148M, Cognizant acquiring Belcan for $1.3B, Rentvine raising $74M, and HP securing a $50M grant.

🌐 5G Technology

🤝 Ericsson and e& Egypt partner to enhance Egypt's ICT infrastructure with Ericsson’s 20-port antennas. This partnership also supports multi-operator site sharing, improving 4G, and preparing for 5G, aligning with Egypt Vision 2030 and demonstrating Ericsson’s commitment to innovation.

📺 Air5, a Palo Alto startup, aims to rejuvenate the cable TV industry by integrating DOCSIS with 5G wireless technology. With trials set for late 2024, Air5 could offer a key growth opportunity for cable operators with rising competition from 5G and fixed wireless access.

💾 TRAI introduced the Terahertz Experimental Authorization (THEA) for R&D in the 95 GHz to 3 THz range. The permit supports trials and experimentation and includes frequency bands for 6G and automotive radar, positioning India as a key player in next-gen technology development.

💾 AI Centric Semiconductors

📼 Purio, a South Korean AI semiconductor leader, launched its RNGD AI inference chip. It claims 60% better power efficiency than Nvidia's L40S. RNGD, powered by TSMC’s silicon and featuring two HBM3s, delivers 11.5 queries per second at 185 watts.

 🖥️ IBM launched its new Telum II processor and Spire AI accelerator. It will boost IBM Z’s mainframe performance with advanced AI capabilities and 40% more cache. Produced by Samsung Foundry's 5-nm process, they target high-performance, energy-efficient enterprise computing.

📲 Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced its investment of $1.9T to boost its FC-BGA products for AI and servers. It secured an AMD contract for mega data center FC-BGA production in Busan and Vietnam. They focus on challenging server applications, and their technology includes ultra-large areas and fine circuits.

🖥 Tesla launched its "Mojo" NIC and TTPoE protocol for its AI data center. Mojo enhances image data processing for autonomous driving, and Tesla joined the Ultra Ethernetton Consortium to promote Ethernet in data centers, competing with Nvidia's Infiniband.

🖥️ AI Breakthroughs

🛡 Meshy-4, a new AI-powered 3D modeling tool from Meshy. It features improved geometry, a split modeling and texturing process, and a “Retry” option. It aims to enhance professional-quality virtual environments and impact game development and architectural visualization.

🚀 SK Telecom and Lambda collaborated to install a large NVIDIA GPU cluster at SK Telecom’s Gasan data center. This will expand AI cloud services in South Korea, and this partnership will introduce GPU-as-a-Service and support advanced AI applications nationwide.

☁ Aleph Alpha released two open-source LLMs, Pharia-1-LLM-7B-control and Pharia-1-LLM-7B-control-aligned. They emphasize transparency and compliance with EU regulations, and these models seek to disprove closed-source models and advance the creation of morally responsible, auditable AI.

💰 Deals of the Week

💵 Cognizant acquired Belcan, a leading provider of engineering research and development services worldwide, for $1.3B to boost engineering capabilities, expand in digital and IoT, and enter the growing aerospace and defense sectors.

📈 Shift4 Payments acquired Givex, a Toronto-based customer engagement platform, for $148M, to expand a worldwide company that provides services to various market segments.

🏢 Rentvine, a property management software provider, secured $74M in Series B funding to improve both its product development and expansion and customer support

🏭 HP, a tech company specializing in PCs, printers, and enterprise solutions, secured a $50M Grant fund under the US CHIPS Act to aid in the renovation and growth of a microfluidics technology center.
