🏫 Nigerian Student Enrolment in the UK Dropped by 20%

International student enrolment from Nigeria to the UK dropped by 20% between 2022 and 2023, driven by tighter UK visa policies and Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions. Over 70K Nigerian students enrolled in 2022, playing a key role in the UK’s international student growth. However, the UK’s ban on study visa holders bringing dependents, combined with rising inflation and currency depreciation in Nigeria, has made UK education increasingly unaffordable.

⚕️ >40% of US Adults Had Some Type of Medical Debt

In 2022, over 40% of US adults carried some form of medical debt, driven by rising healthcare costs, and it's still increasing. According to a recent survey, around 31M Americans borrowed money for healthcare, adding over $70B in debt. The recently passed tax and budget reconciliation bill may result in cuts to federal health programs and changes to existing policies, potentially increasing the number of uninsured and raising costs. The full impact will depend on how the policies are implemented.

🏭 Service Robot Installations in Transport and Logistics Grew 30%

Service robots, designed to assist humans outside industrial settings, saw increased installations in 2023 across sectors like logistics, transportation, and agriculture, with healthcare being the only exception. Advancements in AI, machine learning, and sensors have made these robots more capable and adaptable. In healthcare, they aid in patient monitoring and administration, while drones support sorting and packing in logistics. With global labor shortages, demand for such robots is rising. Personal robots for cleaning, cooking, and laundry are becoming common. According to IFR, global service robot sales increased by 30%, signaling strong market growth.
