🏫 New Zealand Secondary Teachers Count Up 5%

Between 2016 and 2022, New Zealand’s teacher workforce grew by nearly 5%. In 2024, the government introduced measures to recruit foreign K-12 teachers by establishing migration pathways and offering scholarships. Concurrently, it allocated $100M to support math teachers in addressing learning gaps. The country recorded a 2.5% increase in 2024, over 1.7K primary and secondary teachers, the largest annual gain since 2009, signaling cautious optimism for future staffing.

⚕️ 10% Increase in the US Nursing Workforce

Despite a dip between 2019 and 2020, the number of nursing personnel in the US increased by nearly 10% from 2020 to 2022. However, rising demand is driven by a growing aging population, chronic diseases. Alarmingly, nursing facilities are declining, and proposed FY 2026 federal budget cuts targeting nursing education and research could worsen an already deepening healthcare workforce crisis.

🤖 Federal IT R&D and AI Funding Increased by Nearly $3B

Over the past five years, federal funding for IT and AI has increased, underscoring the US's aggressive push in tech innovation, now accounting for over 80% of global AI investment. However, recent political tensions and federal budget cuts have introduced uncertainty, disrupting ongoing AI research. Capitalizing on the moment, academic publishers are swiftly signing licensing deals with AI firms, monetizing their data by enabling its use for training models and research.
