The EV market is stumbling amid market volatility, with the EU proposing to lower tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, a decision influenced by feedback from car makers and lobbying from Beijing. In response to sluggish sales, Toyota has reduced its 2026 global EV production target by 30% to around 1 million units. While developments in electric aviation are emerging, IDTechEx projects significant growth in the sector, forecasting that battery-electric airplanes will comprise 24% of sales by 2045. EasyJet is collaborating with JetZero to develop a hydrogen-powered blended-wing aircraft. The global railway market has surpassed $200B for the first time, with a projected 4% growth over the next five years. In maritime innovation, Wärtsilä and Eidesvik Offshore are pioneering the use of ammonia fuel, while self-driving tech company Forterra has raised $75M in Series B funding.

🚘 Ground Mobility

🚗 EU Proposes Lower Tariffs on Chinese Electric Vehicles. The European Union proposed lower tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles after input from car makers, as Beijing pushed for a deal before the proposed duties came into force.

🔋 India's Electric Vehicle Adoption Gains Momentum in 2024. India is making significant strides in electric vehicle adoption, especially in the three-wheeler segment, where EVs now represent over 50% of new sales in 2024. Nitin Gadkari, India's Transport Minister, projected that annual EV sales in the country will hit 10 million units by 2030.

⚠️ Toyota Cuts Electric Vehicle Production Target for 2026. Due to sluggish sales, Toyota Motor Corp. lowered its 2026 global production target for electric vehicles by 30% to around 1 million units.

🛬 Aviation

✈️ IDTechEx Forecasts Significant Electric Airplane Sales by 2045. IDTechEx, a research firm, predicts that 24% of airplane sales will be battery-electric by 2045, indicating strong growth in the nascent electric airplane market.

🚁 DGCA issues circular advising electric vertical take-off landing plane certification. The advisory in India provides comprehensive safety requirements on the design, construction, structural strength, flight performance, and power plant installation required for type certification of eVTOL aircraft. 

✈️ EasyJet Partners with JetZero to Develop Hydrogen-Powered Blended Wing Aircraft. EasyJet, a budget airline, has teamed up with US start-up JetZero to support the development of an ultra-efficient 'blended wing' aircraft design that can run on hydrogen fuel.

🚋 Rail

🚊 The global railway market exceeds $200B for the first time. SCI Verkehr projects a steady growth of 4% for the worldwide railway market over the next five years in its bi-annual report.

🚄 Siemens Mobility to Build High-Speed Rail Facility in US. Siemens Mobility, a leading mobility company, will establish the first high-speed rail production facility in North America in Horseheads, New York.

🚆 Moldova Joins OTIF for International Rail Transport. Moldova became the 52nd member country of OTIF, the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail, on 1 September 2024.

🚢 Marine

⚓️ Wärtsilä and Eidesvik Offshore Pioneer Ammonia Fuel in Shipping. Wärtsilä, a technology group, and Eidesvik Offshore, a shipping company, have signed a landmark deal to pioneer the use of ammonia as a fuel in the maritime industry.

💨 New Wind-Assist Products from Becker Marine Systems. Becker Marine Systems introduced advanced hydrodynamic optimization products: the Becker Daggerboard to reduce leeway and the Becker Steering Gear to provide efficient, space-saving control in smaller vessels.

🛳️ LR Foundation will fund the development of the maritime industry blockchain. Lloyd’s Register Foundation and Blockchain Labs for Open Collaboration (BLOC) announced a funding partnership to set up Maritime Blockchain Labs (MBL), which will explore the use of blockchain for the assurance and safety of critical infrastructure and drive new business models for the global maritime industry.

🚗 Self-Driving Tech Company Forterra Raises $75M Series B. Forterra, a self-driving technology company, raised $75M in an oversubscribed Series B funding round led by Moore Strategic Ventures and XYZ Venture Partners.

🚘 Spare Secures $42M Series B to Boost Demand Response Transit Solutions. Spare, a provider of mobility operations software, raised $42M in Series B funding to accelerate the growth of its demand response transit solutions.

🚚 FreightTech Startup Aifleet Secures $16.6M Series B Funding. Aifleet, a FreightTech startup, raised $16.6M in Series B funding to grow its operations and help truck drivers optimize their time.

💰 EV Startup Clean Electric Raises $6M. Clean Electric, an electric vehicle startup, raised $6M in a funding round co-led by Info Edge Ventures, Pi Ventures, and Kalaari Capital.

🛩️ L2 Aviation Secures Investment for Expansion. L2 Aviation, an aviation company, received an investment from Argentum, an investment firm. The investment will allow L2 Aviation to increase production, enhance capabilities, and pursue acquisitions.

🚗 Wunder Mobility Acquires GoUrban to Expand Vehicle Sharing Solutions. Wunder Mobility, a German company providing software and hardware for vehicle sharing, acquired GoUrban, an Austrian software provider for vehicle-sharing operators.
