BYD is expanding its market presence with plans to establish its first European EV production facility by 2025. Its largest competitor, Tesla, posted a 45% profit decline for Q2 2024, attributed to weaker EV demand and EU tariffs. The UK is injecting $100M to develop more sustainable aviation technologies while Airbus is participating in several hydrogen aviation hub collaborations, such as the London Gatwick Hydrogen Hub launch. India is committing $3B to enhance urban transit infrastructure. Additionally, Triton EV’s new hydrogen engine highlights the increasing importance of hydrogen as a sustainable fuel alternative. Electrification continues to attract significant funding, with Monarch Tractor, an electric and autonomous tractor manufacturer, raising $133M in Series C funding.

🚗 BYD to Open the First European Electric Vehicle Production Facility in 2025. BYD, a major Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, plans to open its first production site in the European Union in 2025 to expand its presence in the European market.

📉Tesla's Profits Plunge 45% Year-Over-Year. The EV manufacturer reported a 45% decline in profit for Q2 of 2024. This fourth consecutive quarterly profit drop was attributed to weak EV demand and EU tariffs impacting exports from its Shanghai factory.

🚗 Alphabet Invests $5B in Waymo's Self-Driving Technology. Alphabet, the parent company of Google, announced that it will invest an additional $5 billion into its self-driving car subsidiary, Waymo, over the next few years.

🛬 Aviation

✈️ UK Invests Over £100M in Greener Aviation. The UK government, through the Business and Trade Secretary, has allocated over £100M in funding to support the development of greener air travel technologies, such as hydrogen-powered aircraft.

🚗 Chinese EV Maker XPeng to Unveil Flying Car in Australia. XPeng, a Chinese electric vehicle company, will unveil what it says is Australia's first flying car next month, along with four premium EVs it plans to introduce in the country.

🚋 Rail Mobility Developments

🚆First Bangkok-Laos Passenger Train Service Launched. A new passenger train service connecting Bangkok and Vientiane was launched, with the first train departing from Bangkok and arriving in Vientiane on July 20th.

🚇 USD 3 Billion for Urban Mobility Infrastructure in India. The Indian government has allocated substantial funds for the development of metro rail and other mass rapid transit systems across major cities in the country as part of the Union Budget 2024.

🚗 India's Hydrogen Engine to Disrupt EV Market. Triton EV, a leader in clean automotive technology, has unveiled a revolutionary hydrogen internal combustion engine with superior thermal efficiency. This engine offers a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional gasoline engines.

✈️ Major Aviation Players Collaborate on Hydrogen Hub for Zero-Carbon Flights. Following Spain’s partnership, London Gatwick Airport, Airbus, easyJet, and Air Products have announced the launch of the London Gatwick Hydrogen Hub, a significant initiative to enable future zero-carbon flights.

✈️ GKN Aerospace Launches £44M Project for Hydrogen-Electric Aircraft Propulsion. GKN Aerospace, an aerospace company, has launched a £44M project called H2FlyGHT to develop a 2MW cryogenic hydrogen-electric propulsion system for future larger sustainable aircraft.

💰Deals of the Week

🚜 Monarch Tractor, a Livermore, CA-based company that creates electric and autonomous tractors and farm management software, raised $133M in Series C funding.

🚀 H55, a Sion, Switzerland-based company specializing in electric aviation technologies, raised $73.2M in Series C funding.

🚗 Zyp Technologies, a Pakistan-based mobility startup, raised a $1.5M Pre-Series A, led by Shorooq Partners, a UAE-based VC fund.

✈️ Loar Holdings, a newly public company, is acquiring Applied Avionics, a Fort Worth-based company, for $385M in cash.

✈️ Unimech Aerospace, an Indian company, has raised $30M from investors Steadview, Evolvence, and others ahead of its planned Initial Public Offering (IPO). The funding round values the company at around $400M.
