Hello đź‘‹
This week’s developments underscore India’s growing prominence in international education. The IIE Open Doors report revealed that the US now hosts 1.1 million international students, with India surpassing China as the top source. A record-breaking 331,602 Indian students contributed to this milestone. HolonIQ research projects that India will account for half a million international students studying in the US by 2030, largely driven by its growing youth population who are pursuing strong STEM focus.
Universities are also responding to growth opportunities within South Asia. Curtin University’s new Sri Lanka campus and partnerships by Rice and Johns Hopkins in India highlight a strategic push into the region. At the same time, shifts in immigration policies in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia are reshaping global student flows, paving the way for emerging destination markets to attract more students in the near future.
With two billion more postsecondary students projected by 2050 worldwide, this week’s developments underscore immense opportunities in emerging markets like India—and the need to move smart and swiftly to meet demand.
