💥 NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital announces plans to lay off 1,000 workers. The hospital intends to proceed with the layoffs despite its high revenue and CEO compensation. WSWS critiques this as an anti-worker attack linked to broader healthcare cuts, urging workers to organize independently against these actions of capitalism.

👁️‍🗨️ White Revolution and Concerns Rise: 80+ Healthcare Workers Detained. Over 80 Ethiopian workers were detained amid a "White Revolution" movement for fair wages. Authorities used intimidation and arrests, straining healthcare services and raising widespread concern.

National Healthcare Growth Tops 60%

👥 While early 2020 fiscal discussions targeted reductions in federal health outlays, overall US national healthcare expenditure surged by approximately $1T, climbing from around $3.8T in 2019 to nearly $4.8T by 2023.

📉 Despite the government's intentions to reduce its healthcare spending footprint, total national health spending—including significant government funding—continued to rise sharply. This suggests that any federal savings were overshadowed by broader cost pressures.

💵 The 2020-2023 period witnessed national health spending increase by over 20% (from its 2019 level). This highlights how major health events and economic factors significantly drove up actual expenditures during these years.

Upskilling/ Reskilling Intiatives

🌏 Australia Pledges $5.7M to Boost Fiji’s HIV Response and Healthcare Workforce. The funding supports disease surveillance, testing, and community-led HIV prevention and treatment. It complements Australia’s broader $30M hospital upgrade and $8M annual health system support, strengthening Fiji’s healthcare infrastructure and workforce readiness.

🥼 The Eni Foundation and ENE Angola have launched a capacity-building program with a multi-million-dollar investment in Angola. The program also aims to improve neonatal and pediatric care in Luanda, Benguela, Huambo, and Huíla.

💰 Molina Healthcare of Florida and The MolinaCares Accord Award $170K in Workforce and Wellness Grants.
