This week, the United States Government plans to implement a $40B cut to the Department of Health and Human Services, impacting the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Head Start programs. Sky Community and Technical College allocated $28M to construct a new health campus facility in Glasgow. Career Management and Vocational College acquired Orlando Medical Institute and is launching programs in Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, and Emergency Medical Services. 

The Northern Territory Government committed $25.4M for the TAFE Centre of Excellence in essential care. Rio Grande Valley College received a $1M Nursing Shortage Reduction Program grant to expand its nursing programs. The National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation awarded over $500K to support research on GLP-1 compounding, hospital competition, value-based care, and the healthcare workforce.

💸 The US Government’s $40B health and Human Services cuts are a prescription for social devastation.​ The government plans to cut $40B from HHS, slash NIH, CDC, Head Start, and rural health funding, create a new prevention agency​, jeopardize global public health, and jeopardize scientific progress.

🏥​ SKyCTC in Glasgow is getting a $28M healthcare instruction building. Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College secured $28M in state funding to replace its outdated Glasgow Health Campus with a consolidated nursing and allied health program facility, enhancing training. 

🔬 CMVC Acquires Orlando Medical Institute, Expanding Its Healthcare Education Portfolio with Paramedic and Emergency Medical Programs. Compu-Med Vocational Careers acquired Orlando Medical Institute, adding an Orlando, Florida campus and launching EMT, Paramedic, and A.S. in EMS programs, enhancing comprehensive access to high-demand emergency medical training skills.

Overall NHS Workforce Has Continued to Increase Since 2009

👩🏾‍⚕️ Austerity (Post-2008): Budget cuts following the economic crash led to NHS staff reductions, high turnover, and multi-year pay freezes, impacting workforce size and morale.

📈 2012 Reorganisation: Structural changes significantly reduced manager numbers, altering the workforce composition as part of efficiency drives or policy shifts.

🖼️ COVID-19 Pandemic (Post-2020): Unprecedented demands triggered a sharp rise in overall workforce numbers, requiring rapid expansion across various roles to manage the crisis.

Upskilling/ Reskilling Intiatives

💉 Essential care boost in the NT with $25M in TAFE funding. The Federal and NT governments invest $25.4M in a TAFE Centre of Excellence for regional and remote care, training aged, birthing, child, and mental health professionals via a CDU–Batchelor Institute partnership.

🧑🏾‍⚕️ Rio Grande Valley College Awarded Over $1M to Address Texas Nursing Shortage. Rio Grande Valley College received a $1M Nursing Shortage Reduction Program grant to expand its ADN program, recruit nurse educators, and significantly boost capacity to address Texas’s registered nurse shortage. 

🌍 NIHCM Awards More Than $500,000 to Support Research on GLP-1s, Hospital Competition, Value-Based Care, the Health Care Workforce, and More. NIHCM Foundation granted over $500,000 to 11 new research teams investigating hospital consolidation, pharmaceutical marketing spillovers, integrated primary-mental care, price variation, value-based payment, GLP-1 weight-loss trends, and remote monitoring efficacy.
