British sugar refinery company Tate and Lyle completed its $1.8B acquisition of CP Kelco this week as it looks to expand into the sugar refining and derivative market. Alternative Food production witnessed a bit of traction this week with plant-based beverage manufacturer Califa Farms acquiring Uproot Inc., a US company specializing in plant-based milk dispensers for the food service industry, while Onego Bio, a company producing precision-fermented egg protein, secured €14 million in funding from the EU. The UN outlined its view that multinationals should not be allowed to be considered carbon-negative by using offset agreements amidst a rising wave of offset purchases.

πŸ₯š Onego Bio Raises $15.3M to Scale Egg Protein Production. Onego Bio, a company producing precision-fermented egg protein, secured €14 million in funding from the EU Accelerator and a Series A round.

🌳 New Funding for the Carbon Capture Project in Scotland. John Swinney, a Scottish Government official, is allocating new funding for a carbon capture and storage project in the northeast of Scotland, which is considered a landmark initiative.

🌱 CarbonBlue Secures $10M Seed Funding for CO2 Removal Tech. CarbonBlue, a climate-tech startup focused on water-based CO2 removal, raised $10M in a seed funding round.

🌳 UN attacks companies’ reliance on carbon credits to hit climate targets. The UN outlined its opposition to companies using credits to cancel out their carbon dioxide footprint, putting it on a collision course with big oil and technology groups.

♻️ Indonesia and IAEA Collaborate on Nuclear Tech to Recycle Plastic Waste. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of Indonesia, in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is developing Nuclear Technology for Controlling Plastic Pollution (Nutec Plastic) to tackle plastic waste problems.

🌱 VC Fund Focused on Food and Water Security Launches. Natural Ventures, a venture capital firm, announced the initial closing of its first fund aimed at investing in solutions for global food and water security challenges.

🌳 Terex Acquires Environmental Solutions Group. Terex Corporation has agreed to acquire Environmental Solutions Group (ESG) from Dover Corporation. This involves companies Terex Corporation and Dover Corporation.
