✈️Taking Off: Electric Aviation's Past Year in Review
HolonIQ Electric Aircraft Index: The index has posted an increase of almost 30% in the year to January 2024. Various external factors, such as technology, certification processes, and research and development challenges, contributed to the observed trends. During this period, notable events included RTX (Raytheon Technologies Corporation) on October 4, 2023, successfully demonstrating the operation of semiconductors and advanced software algorithms that control power and can interrupt extreme currents faster. In addition, Joby Aviation, a startup founded in 2009, secured a $55 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense on the last week of April 2023, a deal that will allow the company to put its aircraft into customers' hands and start generating revenue before it has achieved Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification.

🔬 Claris Biotherapeutics, a New Jersey-based biotechnology company, raised a $57M Series A from Novo Holdings, RA Capital, and Mass General Brigham Ventures to expand operations and its development efforts.
🧬 Genomics, a UK based Genome analysis company, raised $44.5M from F-Prime Capital and Foresight Capital Partners to develop its risk estimation technology to prevent common diseases and cancers.
⚡ Vortexa, a UK-based energy analytics platform provider, raised $34M Series C from Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital to further accelerate its international expansion, technology, and quality of service to its clients and partners.
🐾 Gallant Therapeutics, a California-based animal health biotechnology company, raised $15M Series A from Bold Capital Partners to expedite the development of innovative allogeneic stem cell therapies.
🏥 Care Continuity, a Texas-based healthcare logistics company, raised $10M Series A from Empactful Capital & Viewside Capital Partners to boost solution adoption, invest strategically for growth, and enhance AI for improved patient navigation.
💼 Acquisitions
🔬 Veracyte, Inc. (Nasdaq: VCYT), a California-based genomic diagnostics company, reached a definitive agreement to acquire C2i Genomics, a NYC-based minimal residual disease (MRD) detection company for $95M.
🌾 Danstar Ferment, a Canadian-based food ingredient supplier, acquired Evolva, a Swiss-based producer of sustainably sourced natural flavors, sweeteners, and functional ingredients for $23.5M.
📚 Baims, a Kuwait-based online educational website, has acquired Orcas Edtech, an Egypt-based developer of a hybrid tutoring platform designed to connect parents and students with experienced and reliable private tutors nearby.
