👶ECE Attendance Among 4-Year-Olds in NZ Increased by 5%

New Zealand’s early childhood education sector is undergoing significant reforms, with recent regulatory changes scheduled to be implemented over the next 18 months. In 2023, a childcare subsidy shift enabled nearly 90% of families to reduce costs in a country once among the most expensive for childcare. Increased government funding and reform momentum are already showing impact; a 5% rise in licensed ECE attendance among 4-year-olds between 2022 and 2024 reflects this progress.

⚕️ UK Health Spending Reached Nearly 11% of Its GDP

UK health spending increased by nearly 11% of its GDP in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels amid rising demand, inflation, and demographic pressures. Total healthcare expenditure grew 6.5% between 2023 and 2024 after adjusting for inflation. Despite strong global rankings for care quality and equity, the NHS faces critical challenges, including funding gaps and staff shortages. Without urgent action, a workforce shortfall of up to 360K by 2036 could worsen treatment delays nationwide.

🤖 Google Nears 200 AI Model Releases in a Decade

AI models have rapidly evolved over the past decade, with breakthroughs like the GPT and Gemini series gaining global prominence. Google led in model development, releasing nearly 200 AI models, followed by Meta, Microsoft, and Open AI. Google recently unveiled plans for new multimodal models under its Med-Gemma collection, focused on health AI. With competition intensifying across various players, talent shifts like Apple’s Ruoming Pang moving to Meta recently underscore the high-stakes race shaping the future of AI.
