🎓 AI English Courses Increased by More Than 2.5x

Global enrollment in AI courses in English has increased since 2017 as post-secondary institutions attempt to integrate AI into their curricula. Coursera saw an almost double the AI course enrolment rate in 2024, hinting that this interest in learning about AI is persistent among learners. However, women account for less than one-third of enrollees, prompting global efforts to address the gender gap in AI education as well.

🍃Global Solar Electricity Capacity Surpassed Hydro

Global solar electricity capacity has now surpassed hydropower, driven by the falling cost of solar technology and widespread geographic availability. Unlike massive hydro projects that require large-scale investment and infrastructure, solar energy has become more accessible, enabling small businesses to adopt rooftop solar. India ranks third globally in power capacity growth, largely driven by solar. Türkiye has doubled its solar capacity in just 2.5 years, surpassing 2025 target. While solar grows ahead, hydropower remains strong, with China planning the world’s largest hydropower dam in Tibet, reflecting continued strategic interest in large-scale hydro development as well.

🏭 The US Defense Budget Increased by Nearly 25%

Between 2021 and 2024, the US defense budget increased by nearly 25%, driven by rapid advancements in weapon systems and space technology. Around $250M was allocated to boost missile production. There are now over 12,000 satellites orbiting Earth, serving various purposes including defense and surveillance. The integration of AI and satellite navigation has transformed modern warfare, pushing global defense spending higher. As nations race for superiority, defense has evolved into a high-stakes business with global implications.
