🌞 55% Increase in China's Solar Power Capacity

Over the last two decades, China has seen remarkable growth in its installed renewable capacity, far exceeding that of the rest of the world. China's power generation capacity from wind increased by 21% in 2023. Solar power has also seen a big push, with China accounting for the largest share of solar capacity added in 2023, increasing its installed solar generation capacity by 55%. China's solar additions in 2023 equaled the additions from the rest of the world in 2022. China's total installed capacity of renewable energy exceeded 1.45 billion kilowatts in 2023, accounting for more than 50 percent of the country's total installed power generation capacity.

Electricity generated through fossil fuels has continued to increase in China despite the growth of renewable energy. Severe droughts and a lack of rainfall have resulted in low water levels in reservoirs and less output through hydropower generation, which was compensated for through coal power generation.

πŸ§“ 80% of Americans Feel Guilt About Relatives in Nursing Homes

The majority of Americans with relatives in nursing homes experience guilt, with 14% expressing extreme guilt. Studies indicate that the loss of regular contact with nursing home residents, coupled with feelings of powerlessness and inadequacy, can result in distress among family members. More than four out of ten US adults rate nursing homes unfavorably in terms of overall care quality, potentially exacerbating feelings of guilt regarding the well-being of their loved ones.

Despite some believing that admitting relatives to nursing homes is an act of abandonment, several research studies have shown that family members continue to stay engaged in the lives of their loved ones after they are placed in residential long-term care facilities.

πŸ˜” 37% of Students in Russia Regularly Bullied

The UN's Sustainable Development Goal 16 aims to significantly reduce all forms of violence, including bullying in schools, so that all children have equal rights to education in violence-free environments. However, at least seven European countries have more than 30% of students reporting having experienced bullying incidents regularly, with Russia having the highest number of reported cases. Interestingly, 8 out of 10 of the countries with the highest proportion of bullying incidents are Eastern European countries.

A study on incidents of bullying in Europe demonstrated that such incidents were higher in lower-income schools, and boys were more susceptible to bullying than girls. Poor command of the language of instruction can contribute considerably to students’ feelings of alienation toward those who speak a different language at home.
