π 30% of EU Manufacturing Firms Face Skills Shortages
In the 2023 EU survey, 54% of businesses rated manufacturing skills shortages as "Significant" or "Very Significant," with 30% considering them less critical. To address this, the EU prioritizes skills development through initiatives like the SME relief package (2023), offering fiscal incentives and upskilling programs. The European Year of Skills further aligns workforce training with industry needs, focusing on digital and STEM fields to enhance competitiveness and innovation.
π 30% Drop in US Mining & Logging Workers

In January 2024, the US mining and logging sector employed 632K workers, slightly down from 2023 but up 16% from the pandemic low of 543K in 2021. Despite this recovery, employment remains well below the 2015 peak of 888K, due to automation and demand changes. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act invests in domestic mining infrastructure to support the sector, while the Energy Communities Interagency Working Group provides grants and retraining to help displaced workers.
