From 1955 to 2009, the number of teachers in the US nearly tripled, with private school teachers experiencing similar growth. However, since then, the growth has slowed, and teacher numbers are expected to remain largely flat from now until 2031. Meanwhile, the student population is projected to decrease by 5%, lowering the pupil-to-teacher ratio from 12 to 10.
