🏫 30% Drop in A-Level French Entries From 2011 to 2019
A-level French exam entries in England declined significantly from 12K in 2011 to under 8K in 2019, reflecting a broader drop in interest in language studies. This trend raises concerns about linguistic diversity and global competence. To address this, the government supports initiatives like Routes into Languages which was launched in 2006. The UK government also discussed reforms in 2024 aimed at revitalizing language education by making it more accessible and engaging for students.
🚗 Number of EVs in Japan Doubled From 2017 to 2022
Between 2017 and 2022, electric passenger vehicles in Japan nearly doubled from 73K to 138K. This growth reflects Japan's shift towards sustainable transport, driven by government policies, including subsidies of up to USD 7.2K per EV. The government aims for all new cars to be electric or hybrid by 2035, with plans to expand public charging infrastructure to 300K ports by 2030.
🌐 10% Internet Penetration in the Central African Republic
As of January 2024, internet penetration in Africa varied significantly, with Morocco leading at 90% and Libya at 88%, while the Central African Republic and Burundi had the lowest at 10% and 11%. The African Union’s Agenda 2063 targets universal internet access by 2030, with mobile internet projected to possibly contribute $795B to the continent's GDP. The World Bank who invested over $2.8B in Sub-Saharan Africa's digital infrastructure.
