👶 Childcare in NZ Costs 27% of Net Household Income

In 2022, Switzerland and New Zealand had the highest net childcare costs for couples at 27% of household income, with the US at 23%. In response, governments are implementing policies to alleviate these burdens. Switzerland is investing CHF 530 million in subsidies and expanding childcare availability, while New Zealand aims to enhance affordability through its Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy. The US is exploring expanded access via the Child Care and Development Block Grant.

🛢️ 20% of Turkey’s Energy Supply Came From Natural Gas

From 2018 to 2022, Turkey's energy supply was dominated by natural gas at 1,760 PJ and oil at 1,848 PJ, with renewables like wind and solar contributing 742 PJ. The government aims for net zero emissions by 2053, targeting renewables to comprise 64.7 percent of installed capacity by 2035. Key initiatives include the National Renewable Energy Action Plan and Energy Efficiency Strategy, balancing energy security with environmental goals amidst ongoing fossil fuel reliance.

🧑‍⚕️ >15% Rise in US Health Spend

US national health expenditure soared from $27B in 1960 to $4.9T in 2023, with over $700B added between 2020 and 2023. This rise reflects population growth, medical advancements, and escalating costs, challenging government goals like those outlined in Healthy People 2030. Initiatives such as the American Rescue Plan Act and state-level programs aim to expand coverage and control costs, promoting equitable access to healthcare while addressing financial pressures on the system.
