📉 Genomic sees a 17% Drop in Index
HolonIQ Genomics Index: Overall, the index has a strong negative trend, having dropped by almost 17% since June 2023. Excision BioTherapeutics, a biotechnology company, tested a gene-editing therapy (CRISPR), on three patients on October 27 with the goal of eliminating HIV. Furthermore, the first CRISPR therapy for sickle cell disease was authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration on December 8, 2023. Exa-cell therapy, developed by Vertex and CRISPR Therapeutics, modifies a gene important to red blood cells. Additionally, Royalty Pharma, which leveraged its business strategy of acquiring medication royalty rights to gene therapy, caused an increase in the index's performance by entering into an agreement to own a portion of future sales of Ferring Pharmaceuticals’ new bladder cancer treatment, Adstiladrin. However, amidst these developments, the Index continued on its overall downward trajectory during this period.
💰 Funding
🚗 Burro, a Philadelphia-based autonomous mobility company, raised a $24M Series B from Catalyst Investors and Translink Capital. The funds are likely to support the company's growth in the autonomous mobility sector.
🌱 SQIM, an Italy-based biomaterials company specialized in EU/ITA material innovation, raised a $12M Series A from CDP Venture Capital, to support the organization to grow its industrial operations, broaden its team, and strengthen its focus on research and development initiatives.
🔬 FA Bio, A Harpenden-based bio-tech company, raised a $6.7M from Clean Growth Fund and Pymwymic which will support its mission and ongoing research operations.
🧬 Via Scientific, a Cambridge-based multi-omics platform, raised a $5M Seed from G20 Ventures and Innospark Ventures to Accelerate the Pace of Life Sciences Discovery.
💼 Acquisitions
🌾 Ever.Ag, a Texas-based agtech company, has acquired PrairiE Systems, a Spencer-based company which provides web based data management applications for the livestock industry.
🧬 Allentown, a New Jersey-based biotech company, acquired ClorDiSys Solutions, a New Jersey-based provider of Chlorine Dioxide-based solutions for sterilizing and decontaminating vivariums, laboratory equipment and medical devices.
⛏️ Aterian Plc. (LSE:ATN), a UK based miner, has entered a share purchase agreement to acquire a 90% stake in Atlantis Metals, an Africa-based metal exploration company.
